A stereotype refers to a fixed image of people or a group. When we stereotype people, we begin associating an entire group of people with one image or quality. For example, when people say girls are 'gentle', 'caring', 'sensitive', etc., and boys are 'tough','naughty', 'insensitive', etc., they are using stereotypes. These stereotypes determine what girls and boys their choices in life, the occupations they choose, etc. For example, boys are usually discouraged from choosing occupations, like nursing, dancing, etc., because traditionally the society has associated these occupations with girls.
Gender means the social values and stereotypes that societies and families impose on girls and boys.Gender is a difference that is constructed by the society. It decides how girls and boys are bought up, what roles they play at home and in the society, and their status in the society.
