Stormwater runoff is a big issue when we talk about water pollution, and it’s often overlooked. When it rains, water flows over streets, parking lots, and roofs, picking up all kinds of pollutants like oil, trash, and chemicals. This dirty water can then wash into rivers and lakes, harming aquatic life and ruining water quality. In urban areas, where there’s a lot of concrete, the problem is even worse. To tackle stormwater runoff, cities can invest in green infrastructure, like rain gardens and permeable pavements, to help absorb the water and filter out pollutants. Plus, simple actions like cleaning up litter and maintaining storm drains can make a difference. By spreading awareness about the impact of stormwater runoff, we can all do our part to keep our waterways clean and protect the environment. Every little bit helps!
