Urban runoff is a big deal when it comes to water pollution, and it’s something we really need to pay attention to. When it rains, water flows over streets, parking lots, and buildings, picking up all kinds of pollutants like oil, trash, and chemicals. This dirty water can end up in rivers, lakes, and oceans, harming wildlife and messing with ecosystems. The problem is even worse in cities where there’s lots of concrete and not enough greenery to soak up the water. To tackle urban runoff, cities can create green spaces, like parks and rain gardens, that help absorb water and filter out pollutants. Plus, community clean-up efforts can help keep our streets cleaner and reduce the trash that ends up in waterways. By being mindful of urban runoff, we can all help protect our water quality and keep our environment healthy!
