World Vegetarian Day is commemorated each year on October 1. The day originates to promote a plant-based lifestyle and encourage reducing meat consumption among people. Vegetarian Day is more than just a celebration of vegetarian food; it is about raising awareness of how the right food choices can impact our health. Major religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism have recommended a vegetarian way of life since their conception. The recorded history of vegetarian nutrition started in the sixth century bc by followers of the Orphic mysteries. The Greek philosopher Pythagoras is considered the father of ethical vegetarianism. Most people who describe themselves as “pure vegetarians” are people who do not consume and haven't ever consumed meat, fish or eggs. So in modern usage it should really be called 100% vegetarian or strict vegetarian.
