Make crafts out of plastic: Use plastic bottles, straws, and other items to make DIY projects such as pencil holders, bird feeders, or even jewelry. Use plastic as insulation: You can use plastic bags, bubble wrap or other types of plastic as insulation for your home to keep it warmer during the winter months. Safer choices include bottles crafted from HDPE (plastic #2), low-density polyethylene (LDPE, or plastic #4), or polypropylene (PP, or plastic #5). Plastic recycling reduces the need to extract new, raw materials from the earth as it reuses the stuff that's already processed and protects natural resources. This can help reduce emissions of heat-trapping gases into the atmosphere. It also prevents adding more rubbish to landfills. A reusable package or container is "designed for reuse without impairment of its protective function." The term returnable is sometimes used interchangeably but it can also include returning packages or components for other than reuse: recycling, disposal, incineration, etc.
