Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace. On 21st September 2024, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Uganda joins the global community in commemorating International Day of Day under the theme "Cultivating a Culture of Peace." A second resolution called for a global cessation of hostilities and urged countries to practice non-violence, promoting dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution. Since then, September 21 has become a symbolic day, encouraging people across the globe to pause and reflect on the importance of peace. The dove and olive branch was used symbolically by early Christians and then eventually became a secular peace symbol, popularized by a Dove lithograph by Pablo Picasso after World War II.
