World Elephant Day is celebrated annually on August 12th, dedicated to the preservation and protection of the world’s elephants. It was launched in 2012 by Canadian filmmaker Patricia Sims and the Elephant Reintroduction Foundation of Thailand, with the aim to raise awareness about the urgent plight of Asian and African elephants.Key objectives of elephant day:1.Conservation Awareness: The day focuses on educating people about the threats elephants face, including habitat loss, human-elephant conflict, poaching, and the illegal ivory trade.2.Global Protection: It advocates for better protection of wild elephants and improved enforcement policies to prevent illegal poaching and trade of ivory and other wildlife products.3.Captive Elephant Welfare: The day also highlights the need for improving the treatment of captive elephants, urging the end of unethical practices in the tourism industry and promoting ethical tourism. Some issues faced by elephants are Habitat Loss: Deforestation and urbanization have led to significant loss of elephant habitats, resulting in increased human-elephant conflicts.

Poaching: Elephants are heavily poached for their tusks, which are made of ivory, a valuable commodity in illegal markets. Despite international bans, the demand for ivory continues to threaten elephant populations.

Human-Elephant Conflict: As human populations expand into elephant habitats, conflicts arise, often leading to the injury or death of both humans and elephants.
