Industrial pollution and the discarding of plastic waste must be tackled for the sake of all life in the ocean. If you look around tons of plastic today in oceans weighs more than the dishes. 350 million tonnes of plastic waste is produced by the world each year. Recent studies suggest that between 1 to 2 million tonnes of plastic enters the ocean annually. Hence SDG 14 which aims to conserve and ensure sustainable use of oceans, which includes reducing marine pollution and protect marine and coastal ecosystems was established by The United Nations in 2015.

Plastic is surely one of the most important inventions. Plastic being tough and durable we find it everywhere. The excessive usage in recent times is threatening. Animals are becoming extinct. They unknowingly swallow this plastic and die a natural death.

We have to wipe out plastic before it wipes us out. We can contribute by organising a clean up project for rivers and oceans. Engage our community to clean up a local river, seaside or ocean. We can run campaigns on effects of plastic use on the seas and oceans.

Conservation is the preservation of life on Earth, and what above else, is worth fighting for
