Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the primary greenhouse gas responsible for global warming. Other significant greenhouse gases include methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), and fluorinated gases. The atmospheric concentration of CO2 has risen from about 280 parts per million (ppm) before the Industrial Revolution to over 410 ppm today .
