The United Nations has announced 2023 as the International Year of Millets, recognising the significance of these crops in addressing global food security and malnutrition. Millets are a group of small-seeded cereal crops that are drought-resistant, highly adaptable to varying environmental conditions, and provide essential nutrients to communities worldwide. Millets are valued for their nutritional content, which includes carbohydrates, proteins, fiber, vitamins, and minerals.
The International Year of Millets aims to change this by drawing attention to the
importance of these crops and encouraging their more comprehensive cultivation and consumption and also to raise public awareness about the nutritional and environmental advantages of millets, promoting their cultivation and consumption for sustainable and health- conscious food systems.
To spread awareness about the National Nutrition Week and International year of Millets, Go Sharpener came up with an activity where students prepare a dish made out of millets (jwar, ragi, bajra etc) with the help of parents. Bring it to school and share with your friends during lunch time. Click a pic (take help of your teachers) and upload on the platform.
