Khadi Day is observed on October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who made Khadi a symbol of self-reliance, sustainability, and Indian identity. Today, Khadi represents more than just fabric; it stands for eco-conscious fashion, local empowerment, and a cleaner environment.
At GoSharpener, we use this day to connect students with India’s roots in sustainable living. Learning about Khadi helps them understand the impact of fast fashion on pollution, labour rights, and climate change. It’s not just about wearing cotton, it’s about making mindful clothing choices.
GoSharpener Activity
Students participated in “Khadi for Climate” activities by showcasing local, handmade clothes and comparing the carbon footprint of Khadi versus synthetic fabrics. Some schools invited local artisans, while others created videos explaining why Khadi is a sustainable alternative in today’s world.
Through their Impact Profiles, students shared how switching to sustainable fabrics can reduce environmental waste and support rural livelihoods.
Why GoSharpener Is Different
GoSharpener connects students’ cultural learning with action. While other platforms may only celebrate the history of Khadi, our students track sustainable lifestyle changes like reducing fast fashion, buying local, or repurposing clothes, and see their impact grow over time.
GoSharpener is a platform creating India’s Best Personal Sustainability Score Platform for Gen Z. Just like an academic score reflects marks in subjects and a credit score reflects financial health, the SustainabilityScore reflects eco-conscious behavior.
