Remembering the Past, Protecting the Future
On December 2, National Pollution Control Day, GoSharpener led a powerful awareness campaign with a simple yet meaningful message:
“Let us honour those we lost by protecting those we still have.”
This day reminds us of the tragic Bhopal Gas Tragedy, when a silent cloud spread across the city. It wasn’t fog, it was poison. Thousands of lives were lost, and countless others were affected.
Today, pollution may not always be visible, but its impact is everywhere. It is not just dirtying the Earth,it is heating it. From rising temperatures to melting ice caps, from damaged crops to increasing health issues, pollution is accelerating climate change at an alarming rate.
Pollution: The Fastest Road to Climate Crisis
Pollution exists in many forms:
- Carbon emissions in the air
- Chemicals in the soil
- Waste in water bodies
Together, these are pushing our planet towards a climate crisis. This is why SDG 13 – Climate Action calls for urgent steps to reduce pollution and protect the environment.
Through GoSharpener National Pollution Control Day, students learned that climate action begins with pollution control.
A Simple Yet Powerful Campaign: Carpool for Change
To make this learning practical, GoSharpener launched an eco-friendly school campaign encouraging students to carpool with family and friends while attending school events.
Students were asked to:
- Travel together instead of using multiple vehicles
- Record the distance they travelled
- Use the GoSharpener Calculator to measure how much CO₂ emissions they avoided
This activity turned everyday travel into a meaningful student climate action activity, helping students understand the real impact of their choices.
Small Actions, Big Impact
Students realized that they don’t need a lab or big resources to make a difference. Simple actions can lead to powerful results:
- Starting green zones in schools
- Using cycles or carpools regularly
- Creating awareness campaigns
- Tracking school emissions and suggesting improvements
- Expressing ideas through art, poems, and street plays
Through these efforts, pollution awareness for schools became more than just a concept, it became a habit.
Real Impact: Students Reduced 8336.40 Kg CO₂
The results of this campaign were truly inspiring. By choosing carpooling and shared transport, students collectively saved 8336.40 kg of CO₂ emissions.
This shows how small, collective actions can create a large environmental impact. It also proves that when students come together, they can contribute meaningfully to SDG 13 climate action education.

Students as Climate Leaders
Through student climate action activities, GoSharpener is empowering young minds to take responsibility for the planet. Students are learning that:
- Pollution is not just a past tragedy, it is a present crisis
- Climate change is real and urgent
- Every action counts, no matter how small
By participating in such campaigns, students develop awareness, responsibility, and leadership skills.
From Crisis to Change
Pollution may be one of the biggest challenges we face today, but it also presents an opportunity.
With awareness, science, and collective action, we can transform this crisis into a success story. Campaigns like GoSharpener National Pollution Control Day show that change is possible when communities come together.
Conclusion: The Future is in Our Hands
National Pollution Control Day is not just about remembering the past. It is about shaping the future.
