World Food Day 2025 at GoSharpener was more than just a celebration it was a meaningful learning experience designed to make children self-reliant, confident, and creative. Observed on October 16, the campaign encouraged students to explore the joy of preparing simple, healthy meals on their own, turning World Food Day into a hands-on sustainability activity.

This initiative aligns with GoSharpener’s sustainability learning platform, where children learn through action. The goal was simple: help students understand the value of healthy eating, reduce dependence on junk food, and build everyday life skills through experiential learning.

Growing Coriander: The First Step to Independence

Students started their Food Day journey by learning how coriander can be grown at home. Using basic kitchen ingredients and simple guidance, children nurtured tiny seeds into fresh, green coriander leaves. This activity encouraged patience, responsibility, and environmental awareness, reinforcing the idea that even a small plant can teach big lessons about sustainability.

Once the coriander grew, children harvested it and prepared fresh homemade chutney using ingredients easily available at home. With parental support, they blended everything together, discovering flavours, textures, and teamwork in the process.

From Chutney to Sandwiches: Learning Through Food

Using their fresh chutney, students went a step further and prepared simple, nutritious sandwiches. Many prepared sandwiches not only for themselves but also for their parents, bringing smiles to their families and developing a sense of pride and accomplishment.

This hands-on activity strengthened:

  • Critical thinking choosing ingredients, and planning steps

  • Creativity experimenting with fresh vegetables and flavors

  • Innovation making unique sandwich combinations

  • Decision-making skills understanding what works best

  • Self-reliance knowing how to prepare a healthy meal when hungry

Children realized that they don’t always need packaged or online-ordered food. Now, when hunger strikes, they confidently make their own sandwiches fresh, quick, and healthy.

Some children even organised a sandwich party, proudly sharing what they had made. While others made complex recipes, these students focused on simple, wholesome sandwiches prepared with fresh vegetables and homemade chutney delicious and nutritious.

Why Involving Children in Meal Preparation Matters

GoSharpener’s World Food Day 2025 highlighted the importance of involving children in daily kitchen activities. Cooking is more than just a skill it builds:

  • Self-confidence

  • Responsibility

  • Concentration

  • Problem-solving ability

  • Healthy eating habits

  • Sustainable living mindset

This campaign reminded students that healthy food is enjoyable, meaningful, and easy to prepare. It encouraged them to appreciate food, value homemade meals, and engage with their families.
