Died: August 7, 1941

Rabindranath Tagore was a famous Indian poet, writer, philosopher, painter, and musician. He was the first Asian to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913 for his book of poems "Gitanjali".

He wrote many poems, short stories, songs, plays, and essays. He also wrote the national anthem of India, "Jana Gana Mana", and contributed to the national anthems of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Tagore started Shantiniketan, a unique school where students could learn freely in nature. He believed that education should develop both the mind and the soul.
