What is meant by the density of the population?

We use the term ‘density’ to describe the number of people living in a particular area.

What is the population density of India?

The average population density of India is 382 people per square kilometer as per the 2011 Census, while the average world population is 46 people per square kilometer.

In fact, about half of the total population of India is spread in only five out of the 28 states in our country namely, Maharashtra, Bihar, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh. Another reason for poverty in India is the lack of jobs.

Did you know that three out of every four Indians live in villages?

Tribal people following their traditional way of life, are found in several villages of the country. The Gonds, Bhils, Santhals, Minas, Oraons, Mundas and Khonds are some of the tribal groups in India among the current population of India who still lives a very traditional life.

Most people who live in villages work on farms. But, sometimes, bad rains or other conditions hamper the growth and harvest of crops. Hence, the villagers move to cities to look for jobs and earn their livelihood. This movement of people from one place to another is called migration. But, unfortunately, most villagers do not find good jobs in cities.
