We need many things in our day-to-day life such as clothes, utensils, houses, and food. These vital things are made by people. Therefore, people are very important to a country and hence, are known as its human resources. Human resource is the most important resource in any country.

Every country needs people who have the skills and knowledge to put our natural resources to good use. Doctors, teachers, electricians, engineers, clerks, and many other people provide important services for the welfare of the country.

Therefore, ever since our country, India, achieved independence in 1947, the government has introduced several kinds of programmes and institutions to improve the conditions of its citizens. Let’s learn about some of these programmes and institutions. The government equips farmers with new technologies to work with, thereby increasing food production. New schools, colleges, hospitals, and health centers have been set up to help people get education and healthcare.

Education and good health help people increase their standard of living. But the efforts taken by the government have not been enough to take care of all its citizens. Half of the people in India still do not have enough money to eat well and be healthy. One of the reasons for poverty in India is that the population keeps increasing. The number of people living in a country is known as the population of that country. So, the number of schools, colleges, and hospitals is not on par with the increasing population.

The total number of people in India is over 133 crores and the number is increasing on a daily basis. The only other country in the world to have a number of people than India is China. It becomes difficult to manage the needs of a large and increasing population which is not evenly spread out. For example, Uttar Pradesh is the highest populated state in India while Arunachal Pradesh is the least populated state.
