Hi! I’m Adwait, a 13-year-old student from Class 8, and I want to tell you about something cool I learned and saw this summer.

At school, we had a science project on sustainability. Our teacher asked us to think about how we can reduce plastic waste. So, my friends and I made something amazing: plant-based plastic at home! We used simple things like cornstarch, vinegar, water, and a little bit of glycerin. After heating and mixing them, we got a jelly-like sheet that hardened into a thin plastic-like film. It was biodegradable and didn’t harm nature. I was so proud of it!

Later, during my summer holidays in Mauritius, I saw something that made me happy. We were roaming around a beach shop, and I saw a bottle with a label that said, “Made from plants - 100% compostable.” I was shocked; this was just like our project! I even asked the shop uncle, and he told me it breaks down naturally and doesn’t harm the ocean or animals.

It felt awesome to know that what we learn in school can help the world. If more people use plant-based plastic, our beaches, sea animals, and trees will stay safe.

Let’s all try to say no to plastic and choose better options made from plants. Even small changes can make a big difference!
