World Malaria Day, observed annually on April 25, is more than just a date on the calendar—it's a global reminder that we must continue fighting malaria until it’s no longer a threat. Established by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2007, this day calls for renewed efforts, greater investment, and strong political commitment to malaria prevention and control.
This year’s theme, “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite,” is a powerful call to action. It urges us to stay alert and act fast. We can’t afford to be complacent. With the right efforts, tools, and mindset, a malaria-free India by 2030 is not just a dream—it’s a mission we can accomplish.
GoSharpener Joins the Mission
At GoSharpener, we believe students are not just learners; they are change-makers. Our platform empowers youth to participate in real-world campaigns, like the World Malaria Day awareness drive, and helps them grow as responsible, climate-conscious citizens. This year, students using the GoSharpener app and platform actively joined the cause, conducting e-awareness campaigns in schools and communities to stop mosquito breeding and promote safe practices during the monsoon season.
India’s Road to Malaria Elimination
India has made commendable progress. Through schemes like the Urban Malaria Scheme, which now protects over 142 million people, and the nationwide Ayushman Bharat initiative, access to malaria prevention and treatment has significantly improved. In 2024 alone, over 850 health professionals received specialised refresher training.
India’s malaria strategy is aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3.3, which aims to end epidemics of diseases like malaria by 2030. But while our homes are now mostly free of stagnant water, thanks to awareness drives, the problem hasn’t disappeared. Rainwater collecting on roads and outside homes continues to create mosquito breeding grounds, posing risks to all, especially in urban areas.
Simple Yet Powerful Steps to Prevent Malaria
GoSharpener’s student-led campaign emphasised practical, eco-conscious ways to prevent mosquito breeding:
- Avoid stagnant water—outside homes, on roads, or in flowerpots.
- Grow plants in soil, not water—soil promotes healthier plant growth and discourages mosquito eggs.
- Spray chemical-free mosquito repellents, especially in damp corners and open drains.
- Wear full-sleeved clothes, especially in the evenings.
- Sleep under mosquito nets, and keep windows shut during mosquito-active hours.
Poster Campaign: Students Speak Up
In line with World Malaria Day, GoSharpener students participated in a poster and awareness campaign, both online and on-ground. They went around their schools and neighbourhoods, inspecting areas for stagnant water. Wherever they found a potential breeding spot, they reported it, sprayed eco-friendly repellent, and followed up the next day to check if the issue had been resolved.
What’s remarkable is that many students used chemical-free mosquito repellents—products they had learned to make themselves by watching GoSharpener’s top-performing videos from the previous year. These DIY solutions worked and promoted eco-conscious and sustainable choices, aligning with GoSharpener’s values of green education and action-based learning.
Students as Community Leaders
These young minds didn’t stop at creating posters. They spoke to residents, discussed monsoon season safety, and advocated for cleaner surroundings. Their belief is clear:
- Prevention is better than a cure
- Small bite, big threat
- Clean surroundings are safe surroundings
- Chemical-free repellents are effective and eco-safe
- No to water stagnation—anywhere
- Mosquito nets are life-saving tools
- Full-sleeved clothes protect better
Their commitment is a reminder that when students take ownership, real change happens. At GoSharpener, we couldn’t be prouder to amplify these student voices.
Celebrating Outstanding Efforts
We are excited to feature some of the best World Malaria Day contributions by GoSharpener students:
- Vihaan Sangroy, Class 5, Indraprastha World School
- Rivan Mahajan, Class 5, K.R. Mangalam World School, Vaishali
- Aradhya Sikka, Class 5, Bluebells School International
- Pragya, Class 6, GD Goenka Public School, Sec-9, Rohini
Their creativity and passion truly represent the future of a malaria-free India. For those students who haven’t participated yet, your time is coming. Let’s continue building awareness, one campaign at a time.
Celebrating Life, Health, and Forests Together
Our fight against diseases like malaria is deeply connected to how we care for our environment. As we saw during the Festival of Forests Celebration, healthy ecosystems help regulate climate, reduce disease vectors, and protect human health. GoSharpener continues to connect student-led action with nature awareness, because health and environment go hand-in-hand.
GoSharpener: Where Learning Turns
Why This Campaign Matters
Malaria is preventable and treatable. Yet, it continues to claim lives, especially in vulnerable communities. The goal of eliminating malaria in India by 2027 and eradicating it by 2030 is ambitious, but achievable. We can make this vision a reality through sustained awareness, youth engagement, and smart solutions like eco-friendly repellents and clean surroundings.
GoSharpener is proud to be a part of this mission—fueling sustainability, health awareness, and student leadership across India. Whether it’s World Health Day, Edible Schoolyard campaigns, or Malaria Day, our platform brings young learners closer to the UN SDGs through real-world, student-led actions.
A Global Message from Young Changemakers
GoSharpener students are not just helping their schools or local areas—they are spreading a global message. A message of hope, resilience, and responsibility. By taking small but meaningful actions, they’re paving the way toward a malaria-free world.
Let’s keep the momentum going. Together, let’s reinvest in prevention, reimagine solutions, and reignite our commitment to end malaria—for good.
