(Also known as International Day for Monuments and Sites)
World Heritage Day is celebrated on 18th April every year. This day reminds us of the importance of protecting our cultural heritage. It was started by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in 1982.
Heritage sites include monuments, buildings, and natural places that have historical, cultural, or architectural value. In India, famous heritage sites include the Taj Mahal, Qutub Minar, Hampi, and the Ajanta-Ellora Caves.
The goal of this day is to spread awareness about the value of our heritage and the need to preserve it for future generations. Schools, museums, and historical societies organize walks, exhibitions, and seminars to celebrate this day.
We must all take pride in our history and play a role in protecting our monuments from damage and pollution.
