Goal 15 focuses on protecting, restoring, and promoting sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, managing forests, combating desertification, halting and reversing land degradation, and stopping biodiversity loss.
Our planet’s land and forests are vital for life. Forests cover nearly 31% of Earth's land area and are home to more than 80% of all terrestrial species of animals, plants, and fungi. However, human activities like deforestation, illegal wildlife trade, and land pollution are causing serious harm to ecosystems.
Key Targets of Goal 15:
1. Combat Deforestation: Stop cutting down forests and promote reforestation.
2. Protect Biodiversity: Save endangered species and preserve natural habitats.
3. Restore Degraded Land: Rehabilitate land affected by drought, floods, and misuse.
4. Promote Sustainable Agriculture: Encourage farming that does not harm the land.
Why It Matters:
Healthy ecosystems provide clean air, water, food, and medicine.
Protecting land helps fight climate change.
Preserving biodiversity ensures balance in nature and future survival of species.
What We Can Do:
Support tree planting and forest conservation.
Reduce paper and wood usage.
Learn and raise awareness about endangered species.
Encourage policies that protect the environment.
Goal 15 reminds us that a healthy planet starts with healthy land. We must act now to protect it for ourselves and future generations.
