Today, we use screens like phones, tablets, and computers every day—for schoolwork, games, chatting with friends, or watching videos. While these devices are helpful and fun, too much screen time can cause problems. Many children spend hours looking at screens without taking breaks, which can lead to sore eyes, headaches, and feeling tired. Using screens too much, especially before bedtime, can also make it harder to fall asleep. When we are glued to our screens, we may forget to go outside, play, or move our bodies, which is important for staying healthy. Some kids even miss out on talking to family and friends face-to-face. It’s important to find a balance. We can try to take short breaks every 30 minutes, look away from the screen, stretch, or walk around. Instead of always using a screen, we can play board games, draw, read a book, or go outside to ride a bicycle. Also, turning off devices at least 30 minutes before bedtime helps us sleep better. Screens are a part of modern life and are useful tools, but they should not take over all our time. Learning to use technology in a smart and healthy way helps us stay happy, active, and connected to the world around us.
