Celebrated each year on 8 May, World Donkey Day is a global moment that helps to raise awareness, spark action, and support sustainable solutions to protect donkeys' welfare and dignity.World Donkey Day was founded by Dr Raziq Ark in 2018, helping to build a better world for donkeys by recognising them as among the most hardworking and underappreciated animals on the planet. It is estimated that nearly one in ten of the world's donkeys are killed for the skin trade every year. That's 4.8 million donkeys slaughtered, with 3 million skins shipped from Africa, Asia and Latin America to China for processing into ejiao. The donkey is now one of the world's most trafficked animals. Donate to or volunteer with organizations that focus on improving the lives of donkeys. Use this day to advocate for better treatment and legal protections for donkeys.
