The Earth’s atmosphere is a thin layer of gases that surrounds our planet and makes life possible. It acts like a protective blanket, shielding us from harmful space radiation, maintaining the planet’s temperature, and allowing us to breathe.
The atmosphere is made up of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and small amounts of carbon dioxide, argon, and water vapor. It consists of five main layers: the troposphere (where weather occurs), stratosphere (home to the ozone layer), mesosphere, thermosphere, and exosphere.
This layer plays a vital role in regulating climate, distributing heat through winds and ocean currents, and protecting Earth from ultraviolet rays with the help of the ozone layer. It also burns up many meteors before they reach the ground, preventing damage to Earth’s surface.
However, pollution and human activities are damaging the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases, deforestation, and the thinning ozone layer are all warning signs. It’s crucial to protect our atmosphere through sustainable living, reducing emissions, and planting trees, because without it, life on Earth would not exist.
