Uranus is the seventh planet from the sun, and the third largest planet in our solar system. It's an ice giant, made up of water, ammonia, and methane. Uranus is tilted on its side, and rotates in the opposite direction to most other planets.
Appearance
Uranus is a cyan-colored planet
It has faint rings, with the inner rings being narrow and dark, and the outer rings being brightly colored
It has more than two dozen small moons
Formation
Uranus was likely formed from a cloud of gas, dust, and ice that collapsed into a spinning disc
The Sun was born at the center of the disc, and the planets were created from particles sticking together along rings
Discovery
Uranus was discovered by astronomer and musician William Herschel using a telescope
Before Herschel's discovery, many people had seen Uranus, but its dimness and small size led to it being classified as a star
Exploration
The U.S. Voyager 2 probe visited Uranus in 1986
NASA's James Webb Space Telescope has captured images of Uranus, including its rings, moons, storms, and polar
