Eucalyptus is believed to have many health benefits, such as helping reduce inflammation, loosening muscles, suppressing a mild cough, easing congestion, working as an antiseptic, and supporting overall relaxation. However, eucalyptus should never be ingested orally.
Eucalyptus is native to Australia. Its leaves are long, slender and hang downwards from a single stalk. Flowers have fluffy white or red stamens.
Nearly all Eucalyptus are evergreen, but some tropical species lose their leaves at the end of the dry season. As in other members of the myrtle family, Eucalyptus leaves are covered with oil glands. The copious oils produced are an important feature of the genus.
