MALNUTRITION

What is Malnutrition?

Malnutrition happens when our bodies don't get the right amount of nutrients. It's like not fueling your car properly. There are two main types:

  1. Undernutrition:

    • Not eating enough food or not getting enough of the right nutrients.
    • Can lead to:
      • Being too thin or small for your age
      • Weak muscles and bones
      • Getting sick more often
  2. Overnutrition:

    • Eating too much, especially unhealthy foods.
    • Can lead to:
      • Being overweight or obese
      • Heart problems
      • Diabetes

Why is it important to prevent malnutrition?

Malnutrition can affect anyone, but it's especially harmful for children. It can stunt their growth, affect their brain development, and make it harder for them to learn.

How can we prevent malnutrition?

  • Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein.
  • Limit unhealthy fats, sugar, and processed foods.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
  • If you're concerned about your own or your child's nutrition, talk to a doctor or a registered dietitian.

Remember, a healthy diet is the foundation for a healthy life!
