This song, “Take All of Me,” was written for a school songwriting competition on environmental issues. Performed with an acoustic guitar, it personifies Mother Nature as a heartbroken lover, giving endlessly while humanity takes without care. It was a wonderful experience hitching up the lyrics in a matter of hours- listening to Taylor Swift and Hozier during the process, only to realise that their writing styles have influenced the vivid imagery and story-telling in the song lyrics itself.

The lyrics are given below, so is the piece- sung by my fellow Sanskritians along with me, in the four walls of our music room. I hope the next four minutes

transport you to the heart of the message we tried to convey. It’s a simple composition, yet one that holds a deep emotional weight, mirroring the fragility of the Earth itself.

Sitting in our music room, with nothing but an acoustic guitar and a few determined voices, we poured our hearts into this piece. Every line, every chord, felt like a call to action, a plea to treat the world with the same love and care that it has given us.

As you listen, I hope you not only hear the music but feel the story it tells—a story of love, loss, and the hope that it’s not too late to change<3

Lyrics

Verse 1
You asked for fire, I gave you a spark,
Lit up the heavens, drove back the dark.
I offered rivers, mountains, and stone,
But you took it all, left dust and bone.

Chorus
Take every breath, every drop,
I opened my veins, but you’d never stop.
Take every root, break every limb,
All that I am lies wasted and dim.

Verse 2
udd chali hawayein, udd chalte mere khwaad
bhatakti rahi mai, bhatakta hai aaftab
rolu main, tu barkha bhi bhulaade
sun raha hai tu, meri ankahi pukare?

Chorus
Take every breath, every drop,
I opened my veins, but you’d never stop.
Take every root, break every limb,
All that I am lies wasted and dim.

Bridge
You promised to stay, but you bled me dry,
Left scars on the earth, and soot in the sky.
You took what was sweet, left ash on the breeze,
Now nothing remains but what’s broken and seized.
You said you’d love me, but your touch decays,
All that you’ve wanted, you’ve taken away.
You wanted it all, I'm drowning in sound
Now nothing is there but the silence I found

Chorus
Take every breath, every drop,
I opened my veins, but you’d never stop.
Take every root, break every limb,
All that I am lies wasted and dim.

Outro
Take all I am, take all I’ve grown,
I gave you seeds, you turned them to stone.
Take all you crave, leave me undone,
The sky I held bright now forgets the sun.
