The third Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) is to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all people at all ages. The goal addresses a number of health priorities, including:

Universal health coverage

Providing access to quality health care services, and safe, effective, and affordable medicines and vaccines

Communicable and non-communicable diseases

Ending the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, and reducing deaths and illnesses from hazardous chemicals and air, water, and soil pollution

Reproductive, maternal, and child health

Reducing the global maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 per 100,000 live births, and ensuring universal access to sexual and reproductive health care services

Research and development

Increasing research and development, and strengthening the capacity of countries to manage health risks

Individuals can contribute to achieving SDG 3 by:

Lobbying local elected representatives to act on legislation that reduces inequity

Speaking out against toxic messaging that perpetuates discrimination

Calling out unsafe or unfair practices that could threaten people's health

Taking action to reduce air, land, and water pollution
