Our environment comprises of living and non living things that occur naturally on earth. It includes plants, animals, human beings, air, water, soil etc. These things of environment interact with each other causing various impact on environment.

Water pollution: Addition of undesirable substances into water that make it unfit for drinking and human use is called water pollution.

Causes:

1. Discharge of domestic and sewage wastes from towns and cities into the water bodies

2. Fertilisers and chemicals from fields get washed away with rain into water bodies

3. Activities like washing clothes and bathing in water bodies

4. Runoff water from an animal feedlot or forest, add organic pollutants and germs to the water bodies
