Hi guys, today I will write an article on child labour in India, so let's begin.
Child labour remains a significant issue in India, despite various laws and policies aimed at curbing the practice. Millions of children across the country are engaged in hazardous work, often at the expense of their education, health, and overall development. These children are typically employed in industries like agriculture, textiles, mining, and manufacturing, or as domestic workers. Economic pressures, poverty, and a lack of access to quality education are some of the key drivers behind child labour. For many families, the income generated by their children becomes crucial for survival, perpetuating a cycle of poverty.
The legal framework to combat child labour in India includes the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act of 1986, which prohibits the employment of children below the age of 14 in hazardous occupations. The Right to Education Act of 2009 also mandates free and compulsory education for children aged 6 to 14. Despite these efforts, enforcement remains weak, and millions of children continue to be exploited. Corruption, lack of awareness, and the informal nature of many industries where children work make it difficult to fully eradicate the problem. Additionally, child labour laws often fail to address the realities of children working in family-run businesses or agriculture.
