National Nutrition Week in India is observed annually from September 1 to 7, aimed at raising awareness about the importance of nutrition in overall health and well-being. Initiated by the Government of India in 1982, the week-long campaign highlights the critical role of balanced diets and proper nutrition in preventing malnutrition, improving health outcomes, and enhancing the quality of life.

During this week, various activities and programs are organized across the country, focusing on educating people about nutritional needs at different stages of life—infants, children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly. Special emphasis is placed on vulnerable populations, including pregnant women, lactating mothers, and undernourished children.

The theme for Nutrition Week varies each year, addressing current nutritional challenges such as anemia, stunting, and obesity. Government agencies, NGOs, and healthcare institutions collaborate to conduct workshops, seminars, cooking demonstrations, and health camps. They also promote traditional Indian diets rich in local, seasonal, and nutrient-dense foods.

National Nutrition Week serves as a reminder of the importance of making informed dietary choices, advocating for nutrition security, and fostering a healthier, more productive nation. It underscores the collective responsibility of individuals, communities, and governments in achieving the goal of a well-nourished India.
