Crafts, simply defined as the art of making new things from all sorts of materials in a skilful way. One feature of craft is that it involves a high degree of hands-on craftsmanship and application of technique rather than the use of a skilful machine or a mechanical technology. Crafts are divided into functional craft or decorative craft. This will be according to the use of the final product. Craft is composed of many types depending on the type of materials used.The first type is Textiles which includes crocheting, embroidery, felt-making, macramé, weaving, Tapestry art, appliqué, knitting, lace-making and quilting. The second type is the Woodcrafts which includes wood-carving, cabinet making, furniture making, wood-turning and lacquer ware. Paper crafts is the third type of craft this includes collage, paper Mache, paper origami, decoupage, and modelling of paper. The fourth type is the Pottery and Glass Crafts that includes glass-bead making, glass blowing, ceramics, mosaic art and glass etching. The last type of crafts is the Jewellery and this includes enamel-works, granulation, engraving, embossing, and filigree decoration.
