Particulate pollution has increased over time. From 1998 to 2021, average annual particulate pollution increased by 67.7 percent, further reducing average life expectancy by 2.3 years. From 2013 to 2021, 59.1 percent of the world's increase in pollution has come from India. If pollution levels were reduced to meet WHO minimum recommendations, 240 million Indians would have 10 years added to their lives. India's pollution problem is not new, but it is getting worse. Imphal has the cleanest air in India, with an average PM 2.5 level of 11.14 μg/m 3. It is surrounded by hills and forests, which help in reducing air pollution.
