The Forest Conservation Act, 1980 states that no forest area shall be diverted for any non-forestry purpose without prior approval of the Government of India.

How we can protect mangrove ecosystem.

  1. We should establish buffer zones between coastal habitats and adjacent development.
  2. We should identify and protect areas where coastal habitats can retreat with sea level rise.
  3. We should fence along the intertidal zone to prevent livestock access.

 

In India, mangrove ecosystems are legally protected by the Coastal Regulation Zone Notification, 2011 under the Environment Protection Act, 1986. According to the Notification, wetlands are categorized into four categories, and the listed destructive activities are prohibited in and around mangroves and wetlands.
