Van Mahotsav is celebrated on the first week of July every year in India. Van mahotsav is celebrated in India for planting trees. To highlight the importance of trees and forests in preserving ecological harmony and ensuring ecological integrity, the Ministry of Agriculture launched it in 1950.

It was started by K. M. Munshi, the Union Minister for Agriculture and Food at that time to create awareness and the importance of the conservation of forests and the planting of new trees.
