Air pollution in India is a serious problem, causing a lot of health issues and deaths. In 2019, around 1.67 million people in India died because of air pollution. This means that nearly 18% of all deaths in the country that year were due to polluted air
The pollution comes from many sources like burning coal and oil, using wood and crop residues for cooking, emissions from vehicles, and dust from construction sites. The most harmful pollutants are tiny particles called PM2.5 and gases like ozone, which can lead to lung and heart diseases, and even cancer
The economic impact is also huge, with air pollution causing losses of about $36.8 billion in 2019, which is about 1.36% of India's total economic output
To tackle this issue, India is working on regional plans to manage air quality, as pollution doesn't stay within city or state boundaries. Efforts include setting stricter emission standards, promoting clean energy, and raising public awareness about the dangers of air pollution
