On August 15th, India commemorates its 77th Independence Day, a day celebrated with immense pride not only within the country but also by Indians worldwide. Each year, the streets of India come alive with the vibrant colors of the national flag as the nation rejoices in its hard- fought independence.
It was on 15th August 1947 that India was declared independent from British colonialism (of more than 200 years), and the reins of control were handed over to the leaders of the country.

India’s gaining of independence was a tryst with destiny, as the struggle for freedom was a long and tiresome one, witnessing the sacrifices of many freedom fighters, who laid down their lives on the line.

On the eve of Independence Day, the President of India delivers a significant speech that addresses the nation as a whole. Then, on August 15, the Prime Minister of India hoists the Indian flag atop the historic Red Fort in Delhi, the capital of India. This momentous occasion is marked by paying tribute to the courageous freedom fighters and honoring the sacrifices of the leaders who played pivotal roles in the Indian Independence movement. It is a day of both celebration and reflection, commemorating the nation's hard-won freedom.
