I think it's time for our grocery shopping to have a revolution. why choose plastic when cloth bags are so in right now? 
using cloth bags instead of one use plastic bags can not only be a huge help to the environment but also to the animals. One use plastic bags usually end up on roads and are gnawed on by cows and birds etc, which is rather unsafe. 
reusable cloth grocery bags however, not only have style to them, but are an amazing contribution we can make at personal level to give back to the earth. 
Cloth bags will certainly reduce the amount of plactic which lands up in landfills and NEVER decomposes, might even end up in rivers. 
I think as human beings, its time to give back to earth, what it has given to us. Care.
