The International Day of Biological Diversity and Biodiversity Week both demonstrate how interconnected all living things can be (i.e insects to plants to animals to humans) through a fragile interdependent network. Biodiversity plays an important role in maintaining a stable ecosystem, providing clean air and water, supporting food production, and allowing ecosystems to adapt to changes in the climate. During Biodiversity Week, people around the globe participate in programs designed to raise public awareness of biodiversity, plant trees, protect wildlife, and educate others about protecting the environment and living in sustainable ways. Biodiversity Week encourages everyone to appreciate and understand the value that all of Earth's diverse forms of life have and how important it is for us, and our descendants, to care for and protect these resources.
