Imagine a street lamp that runs on tiny plants instead of electricity! Sounds amazing, right?

These special lamps are filled with tiny water plants called algae. Algae are so small that you can' see one alone, but together they look green and leafy. Like trees, algae prepare their own food using sunlight and gases from the air

In the daytime, the algae inside the lamp consumes sunlight and breathes in gases from the atmosphere. At night, the energy they've stored makes the lamp glow! While doing this, they also help clean the air around us by using the gases in the environment that may actually cause air pollution.

These lamps do need care, such as clean water, sufficient sunlight and regular check-ups. One day, scientists may create artificial algae that glow naturally like fireflies, lighting our streets in a magical green way.

Next time you see a lamp, imagine it to be full of tiny green helpers, working all day to light your night and clean your air.

Why are they amazing?

1.They don't need electricity.

2.They help freshen up the air.

3.They mix nature and science in a cool way.
