World pulses day is celebrated every year on 10th February. It is an annual international celebration to aware people about the importance and nutritional benefits of pulses as a global staple food. The General Assembly of the United Nations adopted a special resolution on December 20, 2013, and declared 2016 as the international year of pulses. The Food and Agriculture (F.A.O) of the United Nations launched a campaign in 2016 to raise awareness of the significance of pulses in our regular diets all over the globe. World Pulses Day has grown popularity over the past few years and is observed by a growing number of people and organizations across the world who make use of the day to increase awareness of issues related to seeds and also to promote diversity in seeds and sustainable agriculture.
