Revolt of 1857 also known as Sepoy mutiny or The first war of independances tarted when the Indian solidiers also known sepoys serving in british army refused to use a new rifle called Enfield. There were rumours that the cartridge of this rifle was greased with the fat of cows and pigs and to load that rifle the soldiers had to bite one end of it. This was against the both hindus and muslim's religious sentiments.Hence the sepoys refused to use it and started a war.This war was initiated by Mangal Pandey. The war started at meerut the leader of this war was Bahadur - Shah- Zafar this war was led by Nanasaheb at Kanpur , Begum Hasrat Mahal at Awadh and Kunwar Singh at Bihar. However, the rebels failed from evicting British from India because they did'nt had enough funds , the war didn't spread to many parts of India and many leaders didn't suppourt it.
