SDG 14 is centered on conserving and sustainably using oceans, seas and marine resources. Covering most of the planet and playing a vital role in climate balance, oceans provide food, medicine and act as the world’s largest carbon sink, crucial for sustaining life. However, threats like pollution, overfishing, habitat destruction and climate change are putting marine life and human well-being at risk. This goal drives efforts to protect marine ecosystems, reduce pollution (including plastics), manage fisheries responsibly and support scientific research to safeguard the health of the oceans for present and future generations.
