Key rules for respecting the Indian flag:

Proper Display:

The saffron band must always be on top when the flag is displayed horizontally, and the flag should not be displayed upside down. 

Prohibited Uses:

The flag should not be used for commercial purposes, as a costume or uniform, or to cover any object like a speaker's desk or a vehicle. 

Condition of the Flag:

A damaged or disheveled flag should not be displayed. 

Respectful Handling:

The flag should not touch the ground or water, and it should not be used to wrap, receive, or deliver anything. 

Placement:

No other flag should be placed higher than or alongside the national flag, and nothing should be placed on the flagmast. 

Half-mast:

The flag is flown at half-mast only on occasions instructed by the government. 

Special Occasions:

When used for unveiling statues or as part of celebrations, the flag should be displayed distinctly and separately. 

Display with Other Flags:

When displayed with other national flags, the Indian flag should be on the extreme right in a straight line.
